BSc for 2014??

So I was looking at the site to see prereqs and all, and for 2013 entry it says:
Units 3 & 4: A study score of at least 25 in English/English Language/Literature or at least 30 in ESL, and at least 25 in Mathematical Methods (CAS) or Specialist Mathematics, and in one of Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
When I clicked 2014 though, it said: Units 3 & 4: A study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English, and a study score of at least 25 in mathematical methods or specialist mathematics and in one of biology, chemistry or physics; OR Units 3 & 4: A study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English, and a study score of at least 25 in both mathematical methods and specialist mathematics

So does that mean you don't have to do one of biology, chemistry or physics for 2014? I'm confused :S

If you do methods and spec, no you don't. If you don't do methods and spec, then yes you do have to do one of bio/physics/chem

Depending on the year you need somewhere between ~85 and 90.

Actually, it's if you don't do one of methods or specialist, then you have to do one of bio/physics/chem.

So two options to enter:
1.  No bio/physics/chem:
  • Do an English subject
  • Do both of methods and specialist.
2.  Other pathway:
  • Do an English subject.
  • Do either methods or specialist.
  • Do one of physics/bio/chem.

So ultimately, methods or specialist is still a pre-requisite either way.

I think they changed it to encourage maths students to UoM and to widen the scope of potential science students.

That's for you to decide. Look at what the criteria is to get into UoM:

1. ATAR Cutoff
2. Subjects (as discussed, 25 in English is a pre-req, in addition to either METHODS + SPESH or METHODS/SPESH + BIO/CHEM/PHYS) with their respective cutoff scores

To be safe, get an ATAR of 95+ because it won't jump higher than that. You could still probably get in on an ATAR of 85+ but the score jumps every year. This year it jumped from 85-90.

If you think that's hard, then yeah it probably is.

To put it into perspective, there were 2000 BSc students accepted this year out of ~42, 000 students who completed VCE. There's similar intake for Arts, and much less for Biomedicine, Music, and other degrees.

I don't think so unless if I am interpreting it differently.  But you said:

If you don't do methods and spec...

Which means if you don't do either methods of specialist.  But if you don't do both, then you don't satisfy the pre-requisites for the B.Sci.  So perhaps maybe it should be an "or" instead?

I dunno...
