When a jury is implimented in a civil case they determine if the defendant is liable or not but do they set remedies and calculate general damages?

Any answer would be deeply appreciated!
thanks

Yes if damages is being sought if a jury is present they determine the amount given, however if another remedy iss sought such as an injunction the judge will decide the remedy even if a jury is present
Hope that helps :)

Note: This can be used as a strength as it acts as a safeguard from corrupt judicial powers exercised by Judges where Judges are often bribed to make unfair/biased decisions. However, may also be used as a weakness as the Jury system is often criticized by Judges in the use of awarding damages. Due to the allowance of Juries to allocate the damages awarded there is a large inconsistency within damages awarded, of which this feature does not maintain 'consistency, coherency and certainty.'
It's a nice way to segue from strengths to weaknesses if you ever need to talk about it  ;D

Yes, juries do decide upon an appropriate remedy such as damages. For instance, if the plaintiff was subject to severe bodily harm the jury would most likely decide that the defendant pay specific damages (medical costs etc.) and the exact amount of this.
