shouldn't the period be 40ms?

shouldn't it be 11.52W because you have to not ?

1. you are correct, it should be 40ms

2. average power by AC source is calculated using RMS, not peak. http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,13529.0.html

but wait, if there was a resistor and a Cell wouldnt u use V_peak to calculate power? not V_rms? im confused

If they say 'how much power is dissipated' or 'what is the average power through the resistor'  or  'calculate the RMS power' then use use (or if the question permits )
However if they ask for the 'peak power across the resistor' then you use (or if the question permits )
