Hey guys,
You don't need to know how to write the IPA in the 3/4 course. As long as you are able to recognise basic phonemes (sounds) then that's the extent to which you need to know it. It is good if you can use the IPA as phonological examples when writing essays though these should be memorised before you go into the exam anyway so you don't need to make it up on the spot. And also, in the 3/4 exam you are not allowed to bring in a dictionary unlike any other english subject..
