Focus Workshops - English and Methods Summer Program

Based around Monash University, Clayton. Focus Workshops are unique presentations of VCE English and Methods informations, aimed at providing students with opportunities to engage in quality learning. We realise that engaging in a five hour+ lecture is often tiring and inefficient to students learning, regardless of how experienced the lecturer is, you almost always tune out during the last hour and the content revised in the first hour is almost foreign to you. Focus Workshops aims at providing quality over quantity, our presenters Judy and Charlie, aim to provide you an experience to to better your English and Mathematical-thinking skills as we call upon our groups to discuss.

My Testimony (Kanon)
So I attended Focus Workshop's first set of Workshops last year in September. I was actually impressed (at the time they were revision workshops, so keep that in mind) about the quality of the content that we were revising and how it was presented to us. Initially, I was abit worried about how successful the workshops would be having read on the FB page that they were aiming on being really 'interactive', I was worried that it'd end up like those awkward times when a teacher calls upon you and you don't have an answer or you would rather not answer the question, so you stall for time :P and think "oh crap pick someone else" but I never felt like that at all, it was actually really great. The way the Methods presenter Charlie presented his content was awesome, my maths teacher (and i think a lot of other peoples) tends to do the problem and then just say "Kanon what's the answer", which imo is not the best way to learn for Maths, because Exam 2 is about applying known concepts to unknown situations. You've only really covered the known concept. Charlie kind of asked us what the best way to approach the situation was, which I felt helped me the most than anything out of that workshop. He'd explained some tips for each different method and what he would consider his best method to doing it, but idk if he'll be approaching the Summer Program the same way.
Judy also delivered the content really well, because English is a grey subject in that there's no right or wrong it just mainly comes down to your justification (for the most part) she provided the class with unseen scenarios such as a language analysis that she wrote, got us to write a bit about it, and then encouraged us to share (with the aid of Freddos :D) our ideas and writing styles with the group. It was a little awkward at the start when we didn't know everyone, but towards the end it was really nice because the small group meant we knew each other mostly by name and everyone felt comfortable.

Overall, their revision workshops were great and I'd recommend them to anyone wanting to try something a little different and to see if it's for them, I mean really, you've got only $40 to lose if you decide it's not for you. I'd also like to mention, I'm NOT getting paid or anything for writing this for them, they're just really great people so I asked if they needed a website and if they'd like me to advertise on AN. If you have any questions about my testimony feel free to PM me :D

I can endorse Judy. Having worked with her for a small time in a med event, she's definitely a great person :)
