So if im doing the bachelor of environments for the first year, how hard will it be for me to transfer into commerce in the second year or even mid yr?

Im basing on the assumption that you did not achieve the atar for commerce.

My 1st piece of advice is NOT to study a course you do not enjoy - better to go to anothet university which offer the same course - ie. monash or rmit (which i do highly recommend). The reason for this is two-fold - a commerce undergraduate degree is very standard throughout aus. And going to melbourne does not put you at any discernible advantage over another graduate. The job pool for commerce is now so big that your marks and yiur extra curricular activities are what puts you ahead of the pack. The other reason is that you may face the possibility of being "stuck" in b.enviro as the transfer cut-off is very competitive.

However, if you do wish to continue with your chosen pathway, the following is the info I got last year from the commerce faculty:

- For a transfer after 1 yr at uni, a 75 average on a full time load (8 subjects not 6) is required to be "competitive". I recommend that if you want to be guaranteed a transfer, an average of 80 would be needed.
- For a mid yr transfer - this is more complicated ad your atar comrs into play. The faculty weights your atar roughly 50:50 with what you achieve in uni. If you have an atar roughly equivalent o the cut off for 2013, then a 70 average "may" be enough for a transfer. Therefore, the lower your atar te higher your uni average will need to be. Unfortunately, melb will not disclose the exact weightage for mid yr transfers so just apply and see.

All transfer for melb uni (both internal and external are handled by vtac) but there "may" be a slight bias for melb students. I have not seen any evidence of this having talked to many people who have also transferre to melb, but nepotism will always exist, be it however slight.

Bear in mind the lowest transfe score I have heard is 77, so the advice given by the commerce faculty seems to be correct.
