Necessary or waste of money?

Hey everyone. So it's two weeks until I go back, which means I'm finalizing my books for this year. I've got all listed textbooks sorted, so now it's a matter of fact of working out if its worth my money to get some study guides. I'm doing 3/4 food and technology this year and it has been recommended we buy Cambridge Checkpoints, as this guide correlates with our listed Cambridge text. So my first question is, is buying the Cambridge Checkpoints Food and Technology a waste of money, or necessary for me to get a mid-40s study score in Food?

Also, I'm completing GMB this year. Should I buy a guide for GMB for extra questions? Is it a good idea to buy a guide for Literature and English too? Or am I going a bit overboard? Haha

I can't speak specifically for Food and Technology, but I've found that there's really nothing in Checkpoint that you can't get for free from the past exams on the VCAA website. The main benefit to having Checkpoints is simply ease of access.

If you feel you need guides, I recommend the ATARnotes guides, they're very comprehensive and of a high quality. Buy what you think is necessary (within reason), and if you don't use something, that's life

Nothing is too much, provided you have the money for it. Anything extra you can get is an advantage for you over other people. Especially books with questions, you cant get enough of these books. The more questions you do the more refined your skills will become.
So if you can buy them get them.

I bought Checkpoints for every subject I took last year, most if not all questions appeared on previous exams. So really it's up to you

That's because Checkpoints is sourced from prior VCE exams

don't buy any unit 1/2 supplement books (unnecessary), only buy extra 3/4 stuff for revision. if you're cheap like me, don't buy anything at all and just borrow it from the library haha

Yeah - only said that though because the Chemistry Checkpoints sometimes throws interesting questions in there that I have not seen in Exams

This is the same with the checkpoints for pe. About half the questions are their own, so that book was a good buy.

I always go neap but I suppose you can't get food and tech neap books. I prefer not to go with checkpoints because I always remember the question and answer. Plus, I'd assume you wouldn't get many external companies providing practice exams for a subject like food and tech so buying questions you already have access to doesn't seem worth it. I'd want questions which are new and so I'd go with an alternative study guide. But by all means get checkpoints if you have the money, but I personally wouldn't bother.

That's what I was thinking. I know my school library has multiple copies of various guides for the subjects they offer and the two public libraries I'm a member of have a good selection too
