Diplomas?

I was thinking of applying for a Diploma of Maths (one of the types offered) or a Diploma of languages alongside my undergraduate course. The question is, what does a diploma actually do for you? Does it increase your GPA? Just wondering if the advantages of having one are worth the extra workload. Thanks

A diploma is just another qualification. If you're interested in extending yourself it's useful. If you are not fussed about taking another year it's not a heavier workload but will just take one or two semesters more. Really depends on what you want and are interested in. A DipLang is also good for picking up a language.

Hmm. I thought of doing French because I'm fluent, thought it wouldn't hurt and I wouldn't have to do an extra year because I already have some skills with it. But it kinda seems useless in all honesty...

If you're already fluent don't bother. Holding a single conversation in French says exactly the same thing as a diploma, it is useless in your situation. Doing something just because you can is almost always a waste of time, use your time to do something else productive.

I'm curious about how exactly taking the diploma changes my study schedule, because I can't find anything on the UoM website or in their handbook that describes the alterations that occur.
