calculator use in Calculus 1 and 2

Hi,

I just wanted to know what are the rules for calculator usage in Calculus 1(MAST10005) and Calculus 2(MAST10006). Can calculators be used in the exams? If so can we use CAS calculators or only graphic?

won't it be too difficult to do everything without a calculator? like in VCE exam 2 of both math methods and spesh allow for use of a calculator.

How is uni maths compared to VCE?

The questions that you will be given will not require the use of calculators.  So in a way, yes, exams are a lot easier but compared to VCE maths, the material is taught faster.

Also, there aren't any long-winded extended response questions such as Tasmania/Victoria Jones.  But there will be some worded questions in Calculus 2.

Not needing to figure out when you should be using a calculator and having to stick extremely complex equations, prone to mistypes, into it to solve them sounds amazing. Definitely worth the quicker pace of teaching.

Yeah.  At UoM, it is mostly MATLAB for most subjects, R and Maple for statistics and a little bit of Mathematica if you end up doing MAST30028 Numerical and Symbolic Mathematics.

how about graphs and stuff, how are they done without calculators (I mean the complex graphs)?

also what is MATLAB?
