Where to buy affordable formal dresses?

Hi,
I've been invited to a friend's formal in about 6 weeks time. I want to buy a maxi dress that I can wear to both my friend's formal and my valedictory at the end of the year, and I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions of where I could look? (both physical stores and online stores.)

I've looked on ASOS and The Iconic but I haven't really found anything that I've really really liked. I'm looking to spend no more than $150-$160.

I don't know if there's one where you live, but at Fountain Gate there's a store called Event that's really good. They get last season dresses from designers and stuff, they're usually under $100. Otherwise, I know a friend that got her formal dress half price at DFO so maybe that's an option.

That being said, I personally have no restraint and tripled what I was planning on spending.

I'm more in the inner east of Melbourne, but I need to get some driving time up so I might venture down to Event. So thanks for the suggestion.
Hahaha, my friend at school did the same thing. She said no more than $150 and spent $450 at Vivid at Chadstone.

There's http://www.missguidedau.com/ if you're looking for online dresses. Forever new has nice dresses, but then again, there's a big chance someone's gonna have the same dress as you. Hate shopping for/wearing formal dresses, prefer party dresses lol. Oh and also try http://www.sheike.com.au/
