Unit 2 Further skipped Unit 1

I am doing Mathematical Methods CAS Unit 1 and I did alright but I want to drop out and do Unit 2 Further Mathematics. Would there be any problems with me keeping up; would I have missed anything?

Thank you!

Nah, a lot of people (including me) don't even do units 1&2 of further and still do alright in 3&4, if that's what you're ultimately looking to do. If methods was okay for you then further should be fine.

There won't be many problems, some of the content of Further (especially linear) you may have already done.

The calculations aren't too hard, if you're worried then just have a quick skim through the book if you have time.

(ps like Timmeh I've just picked up 3/4 Further also =p)

Definitely not a concern to go straight to Unit 2 General Maths (Further). I didn't do Units 1&2, and skipped straight to Units 3&4. The Units 3&4 Further Course is not long and pressuring. Teachers go at a fairly reasonable pace, so you just have to keep on top of it. Therefore, everything you learn in Units 1&2 will be useful, but it isn't essential, because it will be re-taught again in Units 3&4.

Hopefully one or two of the Modules that you will be doing next Year, will be covered in Unit 2.

Good Luck!

I'd probably advise you to keep Methods until the end of Unit 2 just to keep that pathway open, because once you drop down to Further, you can't go back up again, and you can rule yourself out of a lot of courses which have Methods as a prerequisite. Like everyone else has said here, Further can be picked up at Unit 3 with no disadvantage whatsoever (I didn't do Units 1 & 2 either). Additionally, you may wish to do both Methods and Further in Unit 2.

That being said, if you're not doing well at Methods, then there's no point trying to force something that just isn't going to happen. There's a few people in my Methods cohort who are there simply because they need the prerequisite and/or they don't want to be considered 'dumb' for doing Further, and they're failing miserably.

Good luck with your decision. :)
