Hi Guys,
Do any of you have a list of the general task words used in legal and what they mean? I just need some clarification on some task words that I've heard of being used in different ways by different people so I need to make sure what the right way is!

Thanks :)

Eek! Who can memorise a huge list?? Plus, I think a couple are a bit dodgy. I think just group them:

1. Basic definition, answer etc: outline, identify, name, etc.

2. Basics plus detail or example: explain, describe, illustrate with, etc.

3. Show the links between things: compare (sims AND diffs), contrast, differentiate, distinguish, etc.

4. Opinion and arguments on both sides: evaluate, critically examine, analyse, discuss, to what extent, etc.
[Update: full for 2018.] I give Legal lectures through CPAP, and am an author for the CPAP 'Legal Fundamentals' textbook and the Legal 3/4 Study Guide.
Available for private tutoring in English and Legal Studies.
Experience in Legal 3/4 assessing; author of Legal textbook; degrees in Law and English; VCE teaching experience in Legal Studies and English. Legal Studies [50] English [50] way back when.
Good luck!

Yeah, this is much better.
