Premier's Award
« on: December 17, 2013, 02:44:32 pm »
Hey there,
does anyone know how and when premier's awards are received? I am curious to know if it is possible for me to receive one for Physics :)

If I recall, you get notified in around March or April next year, maybe later. Four people got an award for physics this year, so you'd have to be in that kind of position (top four in the state).

First of all, congratulations on your result! What an amazing achievement.

As a previous Premier's VCE Award recipient for Further Mathematics, I hope I can help you out here. Premier's VCE Awards invitations are received in May, if I recall correctly, and the ceremony takes place in June. If you attained a study score of 46 and above, you are technically in the running for a Premier's VCE Award, but generally you'll require a 50 in order to receive one. That being said, not everyone with a 50 in a VCE subject will receive a Premier's VCE Award, unfortunately. In Further Mathematics, there were only 15 recipients last year, which does not represent the total number of students who got a 50 for a subject with such a large enrolment number. For larger subjects, they will refer back to your exact exam marks in order to make the decision. I'm not sure what the case will be for Physics, but I thought that you should just be aware of this.

Anyway, I hope for your sake that you'll receive one! Perhaps we'll see each other at the ceremony next year, since I got a 50 in Biology! Good luck. :)

Hoping to get one for further, but I have a feeling my school stuffed up the submission for the form that says I am happy to receive a premier's award as well as having my results published. My scores didn't show up in the 40+ list (checked quppa and theage). =O

Ok it's a little embarrassing asking this, but what's a Premier's award?
VCE: English, Health, Legal, Psych, Further, Chem
2015: Arts/Law @ Monash

Guys I only doubled with Arts because I couldn't let go of Psych and wanted to keep doing it as a major at least, but I took International Studies on a whim after the info session just because I needed a minor, and I love it so much! It's 3:29am and I had to share this, I think I'm majoring in it bye.

It means you were one of the best 50s :). For example... If you were rank 1 in English and scored 57/60 in the exam, you'd get a 50 in English, which means you're roughly in the top .15% of the state. But someone who gets a 58/60 ultimately did better than the first person, even though they got the same study score. A Premier's Award recipient might have scored 59/60 or 60/60 - meaning they were the best of the group of people who scored 50s.
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

Aw man, that really sucks, zealous :P I think you should definitely double check with whoever is in charge to make sure! A similar thing happened to me today at my school's presentation ceremony, where every one who got a 50 study score was mentioned to the audience except me :(
Was quite disappointing and people started wondering if I lied about my 50 -_-...
but its alright haha. my teacher apologised afterwards - saying that she skimmed over my name accidentally.

I got a 50 for English (couldn't believe it) and I'm getting a Statement of Marks to see what exam score I got. Would it be safe to say that only a score of 60/60 would be awarded a Premier's award?

Think so yeah. I think for English they actually look at the GAT too to determine who gets the Premiers.

Pretty sure they just give it to as many people that equal best. i.e. if 20 people all got equal top mark 100% for everything they just give 20 awards.

What if, say, 27 people got 60/60 and they only have a quota for 20 students (this was how many they had last year)? For larger subjects, they will refer back to the exam and the GAT to narrow that number down. If you really want a Premier's VCE Award, you don't muck around with the GAT.

Ha. The GAT. I did so badly in the GAT this year. Even worse than last year.
Although I'm hoping for two premiers awards this year :D only 5 50s for English Language so I might be ok there.
