What GPA would be competitive for Melb Medicine?

I am just wondering, aside from the GAMSAT mark, what sort of GPA would be really competitive in getting a CSP at Melbourne Uni for Medicine?

At the moment I am sitting on 6.583/7. If I maintain my marks I got this year, I will end up with a 6.73/7 at the end of my Science degree...But obviously I am going to try my best to get even higher than this.

My other question is:
I am sitting the GAMSAT in March 2014 (start of my 3rd year). Do they take my GPA from my 1st and 2nd years only when I am applying next year?

Apparently for the 2012 application year the median GPA for interviews was 6.6 and median GAMSAT was 65 (might be average though, I forgot). Since the university offers around 150% of the spots for interviews, the medians should correspond to the bottom 25th quantile of the MD offers, so if you're going for a non-bonded CSP offer then I think a GPA of 6.7-6.8 would be safe.

I think they take your 1st year, 2nd year and semester 1 3rd year grades when you apply through GEMSAS. Conditional offers will already have come out before the end of semester 2 exams so all you need to do is not completely bomb out on your GPA for semester 2.

This should be your new best friend for the next 6 months or so if you haven't discovered it already .

In general though, ive seen plenty of wacky combinations of gpa and gamsat scores that have gotten people in to med with a csp. The best i saw was someone get in to melb med with a 5.5 gpa with a 69-70 gamsat and was non rural, which means that person must have killed the interview lol. So dont lose hope, try your best and thats all you can hope for. You wont know what is really safe until you have the med offer in your inbox and hopefully not the E.O.D (email of death, as it is called). Good luck! And pray with the rest of us med hopefuls

I've seen all sorts of combinations getting offers. My GPA would probably be around ~6-6.5 if I can keep up my current grades (don't expect any H1s) so hoping that's enough.
