Personally, I thought the scaling was awful. However, my class scores were weak compared to mine, which brought my scores down. If your class was strong though, you may not have felt the scaling effect as much. I did get an A for the exam though, which I was happy with!

Me too! Haha! My teacher was amazed that I did so well, considering how dull the content had been at times. The trick for me was to relate the five theories to real life things/events/people in order to truly get meaning from it.

is it easier than business?

I would say yes, some may say no though! The theory in Media is much easier, as there are less areas of study. While there is more to remember in Business, you don't have to analyse what you've learned, you simply answer the questions as they are asked. In Media however, a vast majority of the work involves analysing the texts/theories/issues you have learned about.

Many people say that Media is a 'bludge' subject and is very easy. This is incorrect (unless it comes naturally to you.) The folio is a massive piece of work and requires much detail and work out of school hours in order to complete it. As it is an arts subject too, the scaling is worse than other subjects, meaning that you may have to work even harder if you wish to get a higher study score.

After all that, even though my ATAR could have been better if I'd taken a science subject rather than media, I don't regret a thing. This is by far the best class I've ever taken, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  :)

that kinda makes me skeptical about taking the subject…

What part? I can clear it up for you, if you wish.

In the end, if you enjoy it then you will succeed. Your signature says it all, 'my belief is stronger than your doubt.' If you believe that you can do it, then nothing that I say (or anyone else says) will change that. I wish you all the best!

Well i'll be taking it as a unit 1 and 2 subject so it basically will be a trial and error year.  The fact that it scales down so much and people say its not a 'bludge' subject makes me skeptical about it.  Is it a subject that takes a lot of studying time at home?  or can it be your 3rd and 4th subject and you can still manage a 40?

Ah that makes sense. The narrative section is fairly easy to remember, providing you enjoy and understand your texts. The extra study there would be rewatching the films or researching them in depth if you want to know more. The social issues aren't too bad, the text I studied only had four and they were relatively simple anyway. The last AOS is media communication theories, and this tends to either be a hit or miss for most people. I found it easy, but only after researching them further and finding new ways to remember the theories. The theory in general is not a huge workload like a maths subject would be, the biggest amount of work comes from the folio.
To answer your question, if you find the theory work relatively easy then you probably could use media as your 3rd or 4th subject.

No, not at all! The SACs are all written. I don't know if it is different for other schools, but we only had three Media SACs this year.

The folio is a choice between film, photography, print (like a magazine), audio (so a radio program), animation or a combo of the above. I chose photography and found it quite easy, because the planning wasn't as full on as the planning for film was.

No, however you can use others in your group as actors or subjects of a photo. While you can't do the work together, you can help each other.

oh god, Media seems like hard subject!  How the hell does it scale down by 50.  Seriously though it seems like a hard subject, i'm not a creative person so thats why I'm worrying about the film and all that other media stuff!
