Monash Scholarship Differal

I am hoping to get into Monash Commerce Scholars/Economics and have read in the scholarship book that it was possible to differ. However I have heard that this has now changed and you are unable to differ. I was wondering if anyone knew what the deal was?
Also another option for me is to take some study leave in 2015 instead, possibly a semester. What is the protocol in having an intermission and can one do it if they have a scholarship?

As I understand it, Monash allows you to defer you scholarship so long as you defer the course at the same time. If you're going to take a gap year, this would be the recommended action to take.

I actually just received an reply from the BusEco dept regarding deferrals and they said that I would be unable to on the scholarship.
They did not say why but I heard that the government is going to limit the number of students in 2015, so I guess they want to get as many in now as they possibly can.

That sounds very unfortunate, I'm quite surprised that they wouldn't let you defer your scholarship. The good news is that once you've accepted the scholarship and are in the course, I'm 100% sure you'd be able to intermit after a period of time (for example, after first year)  if you still wanted to take some time overseas.
