UniMelb Violin Tutors?

Does anyone here play the violin?

See, it's always been a dream of mine to learn how to play this instrument (my grandfather was very fond of it, and although I briefly picked it up - for about a year- I quickly quit in exchange for guitar). Now that I've learnt how to play the guitar I want a new challenge!

The reason I'm asking on this section of the forum (in case you were wondering - this will probably shifted to another section, still, it's worth a try) is because I'm studying at UniMelb next year so it would be easier to contact you on the campus rather than running around elsewhere.  However, I appreciate the help from ANYONE:)

Secondly or thirdly, I am a student and that means I'm not particularly rich :/
so I am looking for the cheapest price possible (I'll supply my own violin).
If you fit these credentials I REALLY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!!

Thank you so much for your help, I envy your talent!

Try giving the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music a ring or visit and ask them to recommend you one of their better music students; they are usually much, MUCH more cheaply priced than the staff but still have (usually) very high levels of talent. I do personally know a girl at UoM who tutors violin at all (?) AMEB levels, so if you can't find anyone I'll ask her, but she's full up at the moment.

I've got an A.Mus.A in Violin, which I got a couple of years ago. In my opinion, depending on your skill level it may not be worth getting an expensive teacher (which I presume some UoM Con students may be) because you'll just be learning basics anyway.

Thank you so much LeviLamp!!! Ill DEFINITELY look into it, but just out of curiosity, do you know how much she charges?

Only because I've spoken to a few tutors - none of them from UniMelb - and they insist they're cheap but they charge like $60 for half an hour :/
Anyway thanks for the advice, I had no idea about  The Melbourne Conservatorium

Well, do you tutor? I've been doing a lot of research and I agree, a lot of them are rip offs, so I'm trying to get my money's worth.

I've never tutored Violin, only academic subjects so it'll be cheaper. I'll check my schedule and PM you some deets if you're still interested.

Thanks :)
The cheapest you can go, and I will be eternally grateful (I don't mind if you haven't taught, as long as you can play it, I can get somewhere? lololol)

Unfortunately that is very standard for music teachers that don't teach piano, voice or guitar. (Bad experiences with cheap violin teachers)

Yeah, my violin teacher charged in excess of 100 an hour, but he was legit. 60 per hour is reasonable for many instances.

Well, (by some miracle) my guitar teacher who was - mind you, incredibly good - charged me only $20, if he had gone any higher I wouldn't have been able to receive weekly lessons  which means I probably would never have learnt how to play it, or at least quit :/
It's tough, because I really want to play this beautiful instrument.

Yeah, but the relative amount of violin teachers vs guitar teachers means that guitar teachers charge much less because there are more of them. I'm PMing you details now.
