How important are rankings when the difference between the top few are a difference of 3-4%

As far as I know, the difference between the rankings doesn't matter: somebody could be behind you by 2% or 10% and it wouldn't change anything (so long as there's nobody else between you two).

Clided's got it - it doesn't matter WHAT the difference is, just that there IS a difference. Generally you'll find that the more extreme you go, the smaller the difference, though. This is why you'll find that in each subject there's always 1 or 2 marks that'll decide whether or not you'll get a 30 or a 40 - because those questions will truly assess how much garbage you can spew from your mouth. Those that get a 40 have nicer looking garbage than those who get a 30, sorry to say. :P
