are revision lectures really worth it in the end? how effective are they from personal experience

Personally I think they are okay for a quick refresher but lack detail (obviously because you can't teach a year of info in a few hours) BUT the lectures I have been to have provided excellent notes, so great that they have been my main source of info for anything and have put me ahead of my class!

I wholeheartedly agree with what StupidProdigy said above.^
I'd also add that some are really good at providing more practise exam material and often, particularly for Maths subjects, reworded theory that may be better for one's understanding and can be taken into the exam as part of your bound reference, saving you some time.
