History revolutions or biology 3&4??

Hi,

I'm a year ten student currently doing Biology Units 1&2 this year and if I wish to get into a medicine/science course at Melbourne Uni, should I continue doing Biology Units 3&4 next year, although it is not a prerequisite? I am definitely doing chemistry, English and maths methods 3&4. However, I feel as if I am not doing very well in biology this semester, as I am losing interest in the course. Would you recommend for me to try harder and continue with doing biology 3&4 next year, or would you suggest I choose History Revolutions 3&4, which I am currently doing well in, instead? Is it necessary for me to do biology 3&4 to get into a med/biomed/science Melbourne uni course?

I did both, and I'm glad that I did because although the actual theory differs considerably between sciences and humanities, both require and develop important critical thinking and analytical skills.

At this time I don't believe biology is a prerequisite for a bachelor of biomed/science or MBBS (plus med at UoM is postgrad so your VCE subject selections don't matter at all at that point).

I'd say that you should do what you enjoy the most. As for biology, although I think the course gets more enjoyable in 3/4, it isn't a prerequisite, and you'll most likely learn everything you need to know in uni. Take this time to enjoy yourself and do what you want! And anyway, you're going to be doing biology for many years following school, there's always time to learn.

I'd have to agree with the above. If you are not enjoying biology, there is really no reason to pursue it unless it's a pre-requisite, which you stated it isn't. You are more likely to do well in a subject you enjoy rather than one you're just doing for the sake of it. :)
