Sophistication and Flow

Hi guys, I apologise if there's been a post about this. Anyway, I was going through some sample essays on Language Analysis and Text Response and noticed that the vocab on them are sensational - and that the essays flow really well. My problem seems to be 'overdoing' the vocab to look fancy. How do I implement sophisticated vocabulary and get a succinct and flowing essay in?

I used to have this problem too, but I have learnt to not 'force' language- to just let it come naturally. Don't purposely add more 'sophisticated' synonyms if they're going to bog down and disrupt your sentence structure. Try reading your work aloud- if it sounds too convoluted then edit it until it sounds right! In saying this, an assessor that comes to my school told me that it's better to be verbose than simplistic. I guess you should just try to expand your vocabulary as much as possible before the exam, so that it'll come naturally
