Hi guys

I'm in year 11 going into year 12 next year, although we've already picked our subjects we have an opportunity to change and yeah, I would like to have some advice please :)

I'm probably gonna do 4 subjects next year, only 2 are definite. I'm really unsure what to do for my other two, so if anyone has done any of those subjects do you mind telling me what you felt about it?
- Drama
- Economics
- Further Maths
- Global Politics
- History Revolutions

thank you in advance :D

Further maths is the easier of the maths subjects however in order to get a really high study score your marks and exam performance have to be extremely good as the competitiveness of the subject is very high.

Like what if you get a 'bad' teacher?
This is inevitable. Everyone is going to get at least one bad teacher in their time. However this shouldn't be used as an excuse due to the availability of resources as alternatives. You are nearly an adult, so you should find some initiative and take it upon yourself to find other resources if the teacher can't answer particular questions. One particular resource, is AN :)

In regards to the 'annoying students', this is something you can't help either. What would you define as 'annoying'?

From what I hear with Economics, it's the hardest subject out of the business ones (generally it's Economics > Accounting > Business Management) and there's quite a bit of overlap with 1&2 unlike other subjects to be exact.

Also if I may ask, why are you considering those subjects specifically?

I'd like to also know why you've chosen those specific subjects. If they are what interests you, great! But if they aren't, I would reconsider your choices. Pick subjects you're interested in, whilst satisfying potential pre-requisites for uni courses.

With 'annoying' students, probably just people who you don't like and are like kind of rude to you?
Nothing you can really do about that. The only suggestion I could make that could work is, if the subject runs multiple classes at your school, then ask to move to another one. However though I personally think you should just ignore it because in life you're going to come across many people you don't like and find 'annoying' but you'll have to work with some of them (e.g. in a team situation) so I think you should iron it out now instead of later.

I did Revs 3/4 and Economics 1/2 this year. I found both manageable in terms of difficulty.

For Revs, there was a lot of reading to do outside of class time and memorizing dates  :P. Though it's relatively content heavy and in-depth, the content isn't hard to pick up - understanding events, it's just dedication and effort. I had an amazing teacher for this subject, who made the classes lively and interesting  :).

For Economics, it requires more conceptual understanding, as there are many concepts. Though it's really applicable in real life, there is so much to learn. I personally didn't find it hard because I covered the 3/4 material in year 10.

They are both great subjects, but your subject choice should depend on why you are choosing the subject for. Easiness/least stressful? Most interesting ( personal choice)? Most relevant to uni course/career? Easiest to get a high score? Probably only you can answer most of these questions. History Revs or Further is a good choice if you had little experience in these subjects. In humanities subjects, a good teacher is important because they can give you constructive feedback in order to do well.

bump!

there has been a clash with my subjects! so I need to make another decision :(

further maths is out of the question now, so it's only between the remaining 4.

alternatively, I can take 3 of those subjects and do German externally (preferably not though), seeing as my school will not allow me to do more than 4 subjects internally.

the thing is, I'm not too confident on doing 2 humanities subjects (I wouldn't mind though), which is why I've included drama as the arts alternative.

thank you for anyone who helps! :)

Have you done 1/2 drama? If not, I would highly suggest NOT doing 3/4 (as with any arts subject, really). The theory is quite intense, and if you're not familiar with the style of acting (non-naturalistic, mainly conventions from poor and physical theatre styles), the performance aspect can be quite daunting.

Since you have to do a humanities subject, just choose the one that most interests you because they are all of similar difficulty (Revs, Global, Economics). Only difference is that for mainly Global and quite a bit of Economics, you have you do a lot of external research on current day events. For Revs, most of the materials and readings are supplied to you by the teacher, but you have to keep on top of it.

I see nothing wrong in doing two humanities in terms of workload. If you are not confident at it, is there perhaps another subject that interests you like Psych, Health or an additional English? Drama is also fine, if you know what you're doing (I have no experience in Drama).

Good luck with choosing  :)

Economics is an amazing course :) Unlike the other three Commerce subjects (Legal, BM, Accounting) what you learn is actually applicable beyond VCE and not career specific. Ok, debatable with Accounting but apparently it's mostly bookkeeping.

I definitely recommend Economics - do drama for some versatility and flair as well, I say. But I can only speak on behalf of Economics because it's the only one I've done out of the above - and I speak highly of it :) If you want more precise info. on Economics, do let me know, but 1/2 is very similar to 3/4 - just a little bit more analysis.
