What do these bracket things mean?

Could someone please explain what the number on top of number inside the bracket means. Thank-you.

is the the number of r-combinations of n objects. You may have seen nCr or C(n,r) notation used in 1/2 methods. There is a formula for evaluating these:



where n! is the factorial of n.
2012-13: VCE at Parade College (Chemistry, English, Mathematical Methods, Physics and Specialist Mathematics).
2014-16: Bachelor of Science at La Trobe University (Mathematics and Statistics).
2017-17: Bachelor of Science (Honours) at La Trobe University (Mathematics).
