Law Courses at Monash

Hey everyone  :)

I was just wondering, which double degree with Law would you recommend? I know it's a personal preference, and I know I'm not interested in Biomedicine or Science or anything like that, but out of a double degree with Arts, Commerce, Engineering and such, what would be most beneficial?

I have always been pretty set on Arts, but without much research; it just always sounded interesting. But now I'm not sure whether I would need an Arts course, or what opportunities it would open up in the future.. idk, if anyone does Arts what Arts courses would you recommend?

Oh and lastly, a scholarship based on academic achievement is independent of what course I choose, right?

Sorry for the many questions, I'm overseas and haven't been able to attend any recent information days or the law morning tea or anything ><

Thanks in advance :)

It is my understanding that the degree you couple with law does not provide a huge advantage. If you are a lawyer, they will not suddenly require you to be an accountant (even though you are trained as such). If they need things like this there are experts they usually hire instead.

So, it comes down to what you are most interested in and what you will do well in. Arts is a popular choice because it is a similar humanity like law. It is also rather light on contact hours (maybe 3-4 a week, lower than science/comm/eng for absolute sure). Considering your law subjects and arts subjects are mixed (you may do 2 law and 2 arts subjects a semester), this low contact hour property of arts subjects helps reduce your overall workload for the semester and counterbalance the workload of law.

You dont need an arts course but you don't really need any course besides law. You can look at all the majors available in arts and see if any take your fancy here:

Simpler, much easier to navigate and find what you like (look for clickable list of majors) - http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/2015handbooks/courses/0002.html
