UMAT *ATAR*

Hey guys, im a current Year 11 graduating in the class of 2015. I will be doing the UMAT next year, however something that has been at the back of my head is what ATAR do i *need*. I know theres no real atar attached to medicine (more so a minimum of 95 i heard?) but what sort of atar do i need to be "competitive". At the moment i think i can get low 99s, which is quite possible for me, however it starts to become a stretch as i go past 99.7+.
I know you need to kill the interview, but irrespective of this do the UMAT people really just consider people with 97+ or 98+ or will i defiantly need a 99+ to have a chance. I also heard the higher your atar the more lenient they are with your UMAT?
i.e. a 97 atar might need 98%+ UMAT (im not sure off the cut offs, i heard 93-94) whereas a 99 atar might need 95%+.

also what are the "benefits" of me getting close to 99.95 or 99.95 when i apply for medicine?

Median ATAR for Monash medicine has increased from 99.35 to 99.60 over the last 4 years. Food for thought.

Ive heard that a few interstate unis accept people with a high umat and a 95+ atar and vice versa. Its best to do some research on it.

i know a person who got 98 ATAR and 100 percentile UMAT... so if you are getting 97-98 ATAR, you probably need very high. if you are getting 99.95, it will help you a lot - you could probably get a UMAT in the 70s or maybe even 60s, you will need a good interview though (and possibly get a bonded position). i know someone who got 99.85 and 75 percentile UMAT, but he is in a bonded position. you also need to meet the 50 in each section prerequisite. some people have got above 90 percentile UMAT without getting above 50 in each section of the UMAT, making them ineligible for monash. but i would say, to be almost sure of a place, 99+ ATAR with a 90+ UMAT, and then a good interview.

**this information is for monash only.
