I received this PM from a user and thought it'll warrant a quick reply on a thread.

Hey Hancock,

How come you decided to go with Masters in Mechanical (with Business) rather than Masters in Mechanical?
Did you decide the business subjects would be more important/beneficial than the electives?

Could you post a thread or a reply to the UoM general chat thread so other people can see as well?

Thank you

One of the major reasons I decided I wanted to take the with Business specialisation for my masters was by properly thinking about what I wanted out of an engineering career in the future and talking with a few academics. For the mechanical stream, what occurs is that you miss out on 5 of the 'advanced' classes you would've taken in fifth year, such as Advanced Dynamics etc. Unless you're doing to work for the DSTO or some highly involved technical firm I believe that these aren't going to be used extensively (one academic stated this as well, but will not name who).

I also saw myself more of a 'suit' so to speak in the city, which is why I wanted to incorporate business studies into my program. I'm planning on applying for a suite of consulting jobs after graduating and I wanted a program that could show I was interested in this field.

This was a short reply but if anyone has any questions, shoot.
