Hi, for my school the chosen book to explore the topic of 'Encountering Conflict' for Year.12 is 'Every Man in this village is a liar' and I was just having some trouble understanding some of the terms used in the book, and google has confused me as well :/
So any help would be greatly appreciated!
1.)What/Who are the mujahideens?
2.) What/Who are the jihadists? Are the taliban against them?
3.) What/Who are warlords?
Thanks alot in advance! Sorry, I am so uneducated and unaware of all these terms and these issues in general :/
Hey, don't worry, I'm sure this is a very difficult text to those who don't have prior knowledge of the situation currently in Iraq/Israel.
1) The mujahideens, from what I gather, are the guerilla fighters in Islamist countries. In the book, Zaman (the warlord), is responsible for quite a few mujahideens and in that sense, he is their superior. In the context of our current army, the mujahideens is to Zaman as a normal enlisted officer is to a war general.
2) Jihadism from my understanding is just Islamist terrorism. Jihadists would be people who partake in those types of terrorist-like activities.
3) Warlords like Zaman are the people in charge of the mujahideens, just a tier or two up in the hierarchy (from my understanding, they are pretty much at the top of the pecking order).
