What word classes do we need to know??

Hi everyone,
On the VCAA study design for english language, it says (on the metalanguage list) that we need to know nouns, verbs, prepositions, etc.

So, my question is: do we need to now the specific types of the word classes??
(E.g. for pronouns, do we need to know personal pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, relative pronouns, etc.)

My teacher I had last year said we should know the specific types, but I am not sure as it doesn't seem to be something that is explicitly tested on the exam/SACs. So I don't know whether it would be better to just have a general knowledge of the word classes, or to learn the specific types.

Thanks in advance  :)

Although it may not be explicitly tested, having knowledge about the specificities of word classes will enhance your understanding and writing about the English language.

Right now I'm struggling really hard to learn all the terms and I would recommend you do as well :))

Highly recommend having an understanding of all the word classes. Anything on the metalanguage list from the study design can actually be examined in Section A. And knowing these word classes will allow you to be able to identify them when analysing texts (Section B), which will obviously give you an advantage over other students. I know they are a pain to memorise but it's worth it  :)
