pass marks are different at different schools and i cant tell you what the consequences of failing will be at mhs in particular, but my friends who did spesh and gma reckon that if you are still good at maths in the sense that you were good at methods 1/2 then you can still do alright in spesh without the solid gma foundation. unless you failed gma cos you are bad at math/not prepared to study for it, in which case i wouldnt recommend doing spesh

It's just that I am really unlucky to have a really difficult teacher for Spesh. His tests are very difficult compared to other teachers, whilst his marking is also quite harsh. That being said, for Methods 1/2 I have a really good teacher who is very fair with his marking.

I had a similar teacher for GMA, but it really doesn't matter. I ended up getting As even though my marks were usually around 50-60% since most of my class was scoring in that range and it's all moderated relative to everyone else.

The test results don't really matter, the most important thing is getting as much as you can out of it by learning the material etc - and sometimes harder tests can be useful in showing what you need to improve on.

You need not worry. Remember that scores are standardised before the grades are set. Same thing goes for the exams. Although the exams might be hard, you might be surprised at where the bar is set.

VCAA is only interested in an S which your teacher should award you if you do your work.

Year 11 GMA is not a prerequisite for Specialist, however, it is useful to complete.

Why aren't all the GMA classes at your school sitting the same tests? Why isn't there a common marking scheme? These are questions you might politely ask your teacher or the Head of Maths Department.
