Intended Effect in Language Analysis?

Hey guys, I recently got my first Language Analysis result and I got "Two mediums and a High". The feedback given to me was that my weakness was trying to find the intended effect of the persuasive techniques within the piece of prose. I seem to have alot of trouble trying to find the "intended effect" from the writer or author. I know it depends on the article but how do you sequester out the intended effect?

Personally, I try to figure what audience a sentence or paragraph is aimed at. For example,  a sentence talking about children being safe at school would be aimed at concerned parents and would be intended to make them feel/ persuade them to believe etc.

Personally I think it's about what action the reader would take. Would they be outraged/disgusted/scared/amused and why?

Intended effect is usually intended effect on the reader. For example, "....positions the reader to feel obligated to.....". A way to figure out the intended effect on the reader is to simply ask yourself: "How does this article impact me?" "What does it make me feel/think/act?"
