MHS/NHS questions

Hey. I am a year 8 currently waiting (and studying of course) for the nhs/mhs test on June. I have been aiming for this for the past few years or so but only studied at a tutor last year at Edu Kingdom College. In the EKC tests i've been getting mostly superiors or above averages for math and numerical, above average or high average on verbal and around an average or high average on reading comprehension. I've been wondering if that is enough to get an entry to nhs/mhs and if the EKC tests are harder than the actual tests on the day...

Also, i am wondering if it is absolutely necessary to write a rebuttal for the persuasive essays and if a rebuttal in needed for a superior because I have never been able to write a rebuttal in the time span provided.

Thanks  :)

I can't tell you anything about the Edu kingdom tests bc I've never done any tutoring, but I did the selective exam last year and I was accepted into macrob with 4 superiors. I know people who have gotten in on principals discretion with 1 superior and above and high averages. i know someone who has gotten into nossal with all above averages and a pd interview. you don't need to do amazing on the tests to get in - remember that mostly everyone will have done about the same as you - i only did half the questions on my numerical and maths and i guessed half of those, and i got a superior.
i didnt write a rebuttal for my persuasive bc its hard enough squeezing out a full essay in 15 minutes already, so i dont think its too important. just remember to FOLLOW THE STRUCTURE. supa important. its not so much what you say but HOW you say it. hope this was helpful!
if you have any questions, feel free to ask! :)

I got into MHS with 1 superior, 3 above averages and 2 averages. So, you can definitely get into MHS with those scores, but it depends on your cohort. I went to a bad school before, so it was easier to get in.

Generally if you get one superior  and rest above you'll likely get a direct entry.

Back when i did it, I went to James Ann, and those test were from memory a lot harder than the actual exam. If you are getting superiors, then you don't have to worry.

As for rebuttals, its not a necessity however, it's actually quite good to included one. But it wont hinder your chances of a superior if you don't have one but you have like 4 or so weeks to learn how to write it, which i would recommend.

Good Luck!

Really depends on your school.

Good school could mean you would not get in with 2 superiors and high/above mix, not even a PD.

Bad school could mean you can get in with 1 superior and above averages direct.

Talking about MHS, don't think Nossal is competitive to get into. (of course you still must know what you're doing)

I had superiors in maths, creative, reading and verbal.
i was from a really crappy school and no one else in my year level went for the selective exam, so school definitely is a factor.

Hey Hellosir,

You may want to take a look of the post started by GalacticProcess about writing essay in Suzanne Cory high school test. https://atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?topic=171227.0 .There are quite a few good ideas exchanged during the discussion and I am sure they are also helpful to help you on MHS/NHS tests.

For your general concern about getting entry into MHS/NHS, you may want to take a look at the following resources and tips contributed by pi which from my perspective are very helpful to prepare you for the test.

One additional and great resource could be http://www.aameperth.com.au/selective-school-test where you can get a free diagnosis assessment as well as plenty of practice questions in all areas to get you better prepared for selective entry high school examinations including those for MHS/NHS.

Best Luck!
