Hello All
I was wondering if it is possible to do units 3/4(Year 12) at a secondary college when i am 1 year above my comrades(age), what are the chances of being accepted etc?

The problem for me is that i want to study locally, which in my case is secondary colleges, universities are out of my reach (Adult VCE).

I wasn't sure where to post this ??? so pls direct me if i'm lost
Thank you  ;D

I am pretty sure you will get accepted, a lot of people have repeated Year 12 at another school (or at the same one) and they are 1 year older than their peers. You'd definitely have to speak to the school you want to go to first, and then work it out from there  :)

If you are super concerned by the age gap you can do it via distance or a tafe institution like the CAE/RMIT. We have had some users in the past choose this path.

I think you will be fine. Although, why do you see it necessary to repeat?

If it is simply to improve your mark, we've had this discussion many times in the 7 years i've been here and it's always came out as "it's not worth it". If it is due to another reason then i suppose it may make sense depending on the case.

same question as the others, what's making you want to repeat?

And also, did you mean being accepted by the school or being accepted (socially etc) by the other students

I am a year (or two, depending on the other person's age XD) older than the rest of my year level, with a few exceptions--there is one person exactly 10 days older than I am, and there are two girls who are younger than everyone else (ie. one of my best friends, who is almost exactly 3 years younger than me haha)

But I'm probably not a good example because for the people at my school it's more like I started older, rather than repeated--I came to Australia towards the end of year 7 and most people simply didn't know I was older.

The good example I know of would be this girl who was in the year level above me, but then due to personal issues (she used to suffer severe stress etc), she had it arranged (before VCE even started) that she would do all her year twelve subjects over two years.

Friendship wise, she came into my year 11 Literature class, and my little group of friends basically adopted her after that ;D and she is fine with everyone else too.

So basically you can repeat or make other kinds of personalised arrangements, as long as your school allows you to.  Like the teachers at my school always used to say over and over again, just communicate, communicate, communicate and they will see what they can do.
In fact, I think the teachers and the school were the ones to start the arrangement with my friend (yeah, my school isn't that big and teachers do get to know their students pretty well, I don't know much about your situation)

However if I were you I would really consider everything well befriend deciding to repeat--you will have to spend another year of your life at school, while your other friends are moving on to something else, you'll have to go through the whole year twelve process again, etc etc.

Ultimately the decision is yours, and whatever you end up choosing, just enjoy! ;D
