Would it be possible for me to transfer midyear?

I got an atar of 58.7 and will probably get an offer for science or biological science @ deakin or la trobe. I want to transfer to science @ monash though and was wondering whether this would be possible as my atar is pretty bad.
If it is possible to transfer midyear what kind of marks would I need to do so?
Thanks.

Definitely. Your ATAR becomes almost irrelevant after a semester of university. As for what marks would be required, it is difficult to say as it depends on how competitive the intake is for that year. I would say that you would want at least a 70 WAM to be pretty confident (which is definitely doable).

If you transfer mid-year, both your ATAR and Semester 1 marks will be taken into account. The ATAR component of things is removed if you apply for a transfer at the end of the year instead.

If you transfer to a degree from the same university, the ATAR is not taken into account in most cases.

I would say a WAM (average of Semester 1 marks) of 75+ is safe, however you may be successful with a lower one. Good luck.

Mid year considers both ATAR and uni marks. I'm not sure if the exact weight has ever been explicitly stated but i would put it at 50% (plus or minus about 10-20%). I doubt it would be any more crazy than that.

Your uni marks are a much better predictor of how well you'll do in a university environment compared to your ATAR, they are also more recent. This is why universities prefer them.

By the end of your first year, ATAR wont be much of a consideration to them. Mid semester, they will consider both.

Just make sure you'll be happy to stay at Deakin or La Trobe if you can't get out. I know so many people who had hopes of transferring out but never got the marks. Everyone thinks it wont happen to them but its best you seriously, seriously plan like it just might happen to you.

Thanks everyone for the help, I'm going to work hard (unlike I did in year 12) and hopefully be able to transfer midyear or after one year if that doesn't work out.
