Hi guys,

Just a quick question, how many places do university of Tasmania offer for their Bachelor of Medicine/ Surgery degree? And how many of these places are given to interstate students?

Thank you  :)

Hey there,

UTAS offers around 120 places for med annually. There are about 20 internationals and no more than about 10 interstaters as of the 2013 commencing cohort.

I feel I should add that it's known to have extremely high UMAT requirements for interstaters (~99-100%ile), at least in the past due to the 95 ATAR requirement only acting as a threshold and the uni's preference for local students. However it seems that the uni weighs both scores now which should make it easier the higher your ATAR :D

Source: I have an older bro and a number of friends studying/applying for MBBS there.
2014: 99.95 ATAR (TCE)
2015-2017: BSc @ UoM
2018-2021: DDS or MD @ UoM

Hey Yangsta999

Thanks for the reply! I was just wondering since I did get a unbonded place at UTAS despite my atar being less impressive than some students with 99+ haha but it must have been my UMAT that pulled me through  :) I knew it was very competitive for interstate students which is why I was quite surprised haha but I got a place at Monash anyway so it looks like I'll be staying home for now  :) :) Thanks for the info  :D
