MHS Entrance Exam For Year 10

Hey guys! So I am trying out for Melbourne High School Year 10 entry this June. I know I have only a little bit of time left so I'm studying and preparing really hard! I was reading the requirements for entry on their website and noticed that they like students who participate in extra curricular activities eg. Sports, debating, leadership etc. Tbh, my school report wasn't that great and I was wondering if this would greatly affect the schools choice of student selection. I have been playing the guitar for almost 3 years now and consider myself fairly good at it :) . Also I was wondering if anyone had any tips as to what to study for the exam(maths, english). I have studied Pythagoras, surds, algebra,  Linear relations, graphs and am studying quadratics and the parabola at the moment. Sorry for such a great amount  of writing because I'm kind of stressed. All help would greatly be appreciated! :)

I got into Nossal High School in year 10 and I don't have any extra curriculum activities. It's not a huge requirement, and they look primarily at your scores from the exams. Similarly I have two friends that were accepted into year ten mid-year and neither of them had many extra-curriculums either. The priority is how you go on the exams. I would highly recommend that you find plain images on google then practice writing creative stories about them, as well as finding essay prompts and writing persuasive essays on them - both within fifteen minute timeframes. Make sure you've done the practice entrance exams online too under time limits. Making sure you can complete everything well within the time frame is the main thing to focus on. Good luck!

I'm a Melbourne high student and i'm pretty sure that extra curricular activities is a major factor on whether you get in through year 10 entry or not. All the year 10 entry students I know who got into melbourne high did all types of extra curricular activities. So, things like sports and music can really help you. For maths, I'm pretty sure you should have learnt everything covered in the year 10 course, such as basic geometry, trigonometry, quadratics, probability and maybe polynomials. Just try going through the year 10 textbook and it should cover all you need to know for the maths part of the exam.
