Diploma of informatics

I'm studying a bachelor of commerce degree (currently as a first year) and I'm considering doing a Diploma of informatics starting next semester. I have no background in IT but I feel as though a skill in the area might complement my studies and boost my employability. I'm currently deciding whether the extra year of study is worth it. Any advice?
