Newton's Method of Approximation

Hi, Newton's Method of Approximation is a topic covered in unit 2 of methods, can it be assessed in unit 3? Can topics from 1/2 be assessed in units 3/4?
We just did our first SAC in methods 3/4 and it was primarily on Newton's Method of Approximation and I was wondering, can this topic be allowed to covered in units 3/4?
 Thank you

Actually that kind of stuff can technically be permissible, given that there is enough context surrounding the method in the SAC (I'm assuming that the method showed up without the presumption of prior knowledge). In fact, the VCAA requirement for one of the outcomes which the SAC must reflect has something to do with this. Quoting from VCAA:

Quote
Outcome 2: Apply mathematical processes in nonroutine contexts, including situations requiring problem-solving, modelling or investigative techniques or approaches, and analyse and discuss these applications of mathematics.

If it was implied that you had to use the method without giving you anything about it in the paper, then it's not fine (as it's not allowed). Hope that answers your question :)
