Module B Jane Eyre essay question

I have to write an essay addressing the following question:

Jane Eyre's relationship with other people is important in creating sympathy for her in her struggle to become an independant woman.
Discuss this view of the novel by analysing the impact of Jane's relationship with two or three characters in the novel.

So I understand that I need to analyse the impact of Jane's relationship with others, but I just don't know how they create sympathy for her (sympathy from us as the readers as well as sympathy from characters in the novel)

Obviously Mr Rochester is a key character I should choose to write about. I was thinking how he misled her regarding his mad wife as that is a key event where sympathy is created for Jane. But I can't think of anything else. This one event isn't enough to write an entire essay on, I need more things to write about but I seriously cannot think of anything else.

I also need another character and it should obviously be a main character, so perhaps St John Rivers but I don't really know what to write about him other than the fact that he proposed to Jane but it was a loveless proposal and she had been searching for love for her whole life.

I'm just so lost! Someone please help haha
