Hi
For this question:
How does Euripides explore the consequences of banishment and betrayal in Medea?

I cannot think of anything other than Medea’s vengeance.
I’m also thinking of the way banishment based on prejudiced beliefs leads to injustice?
Please help thank you in advance

You can mention how Medea is banished from her home to be with Jason.
For betrayal, discuss how Jason betrays Medea, but also how he betrays the Gods and discuss the consequences of both.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
Hence why i'm in all these different threads and boards.

I'll just add more ideas to banishment (or exile, and deprivation of one's benefits)
To the Ancient Greeks, banishment is considered a punishment worse than death (like where the fuck would you go if you are forced out of your city state into plains of nothingness? :( )
Exile also leads to a life of complications (because Medea is such a frequent exile, she is unable to turn back to Colchis/Iolcus for the sins she have committed), and intensifies the dramatic parameters of the plot.

Hi Cassidyhogi,

That's a difficult prompt! I would suggest that, in addition to what you've got, you also consider the vulnerable position that banishment from Colchis and Corinth puts Medea in. Banishment effectively means she is stateless, and in today's language we would call her a refugee - a terrible position to be in, even with the UN and human rights and all that! I would also suggest you consider the effects of Jason's betrayal on himself - what did he try to gain and what does he ultimately lose?

Hope that helps!
