Is it worth doing chem next yr?

(I’m in year 10 this yr.)
So a lot of people take chem because it’s a prereq for many health/medicine Uni courses, and that’s precisely the reason i chose it too. But thing is, i’m absolute shit at chem.

I did yr 10 chem this yr and failed miserably and did not enjoy it. I know i would not achieve a good score, but the study score needed for most courses is only a 25.

I really want to drop it, but i’m afraid i might suddenly change my mind and want to pursue something health/medicine related in the next 2 years and it would be too late. (I know there are other ways of getting into courses, but I would probably have it wait a semester or 2 to complete the prereq and then be able to get in it... but i'm not sure if i like the sound of that...)

anyway, what do u guys think?

I mean, how likely are you to want to go into health sciences? What are you studying next year? What are your current career aspirations?

I'm no good at chem either but I did 1/2 this year and from my honest and biased opinion, it was not a fun year. AOS1 or the beginning of U1 would probably be the most familiar to you with the properties of atoms and the periodic table. AOS2 takes a bit of a strange turn into moles and the rest of the chem course is pretty much all about moles too. The biggest worry I would say with chem is the fact it's cumulative across the whole subject and can become incredibly difficult to do well in later SACs if you don't have the foundation of previous studies. Unlike in yr 10 where theory makes up a huge portion of chem (I think), it gets a lot more mathematical and application is probably the biggest aspect of chem outcomes. I don't intend to scare you but it's definitely a tough nut to crack, however I would argue that if you have some decent understanding of the concepts in the study design, a >30 study score is very likely. If I were you, I would do chem next year regardless of your ability since U2 gives a pretty good grasp of what you'll be doing in 3/4 and you can decide whether to drop it or not depending on how you feel about uni.

That's just my honest opinion and definitely a very biased opinion. Hopefully everything goes smoothly for you in chem!
