Yeah we should get the day off otherwise it's inconvenient because unlike uni students, we're not necessarily so independent. A lot of kids' parents would drop kids off on their way to work - but what if they have no work that day! And they're holidays for a reason!

As a uni student i'm not complaining :P
and really couldn't care less whether I got the day off or not since it's not gonna really change too much on what I do on that day.

It also would mean the content would be covered in less time or it would be replaced by online material.

EDIT: also apparently we aren't a part of the "riff raff"

and if you want a day off at uni (if you don't already have one) you can just take a day off my skipping stuff

Nor ANZAC day :)
(Afaik anyways)

There's only a handful of public holidays- some schools in my area still make some of the public holiday weekends 4 day weekends, I don't see the point in taking them away, let them have it whilst it still lasts :P

This is generally only for state public holidays. If it's an Australia-wide public holiday, we get it. I believe it's something to do with universities being federal institutions. Hence why we get ANZAC Day, Easter Friday, etc.
