School said i'll get an automatic 0 if i miss a trial exam

Most schools seem to give an estimate mark if a student misses a trial exam. However, my school said that if i miss one i'll get an automatic 0. They said that they're not allowed to give estimates and that other schools are breaking the rules. I'm worried that my school is incorrect, as i've checked the NESA website and it says that schools follow their own procedures for internal tasks.

I have a moderate/severe mental condition and my psychiatrist is willing to back me up. However, i don't know if i should push it.

Also, i've done more than 50% of my school based tasks for each subject. I informed my school of this, but they said it only means that i can graduate and that i will still only get 0 if i miss a trial exam.

Not sure what to do. It seems very unfair to me as so many other schools do maintain rank/ estimate and my school is aware that i've been struggling with a mental condition for the past 2 years (which has gotten worse the past 2 months).

I feel like my school is pressuring me to do pathways (HSC over 2 years) and are giving me a hard time since i don't want to do that (i want to get HSC over with, and i'm not keen on doing the new syllabus' HSC).

Sorry to hear this is happening to you!
Have you tried submitting a illness/misadventure form thingy?
I know with my school you fill out this form and get a doctors certificete and the school takes care of the rest. Usually, they re-schedule the exam to a later date. If you have that form and its legit than you're set.

As someone suffering from a condtion that changes how i do the HSC i know how you feel. I pushed to get it recognised and it did work so now everything is all good.

Thanks for your reply,

I spoke with my school today and they said i have to resit all my exams by the end of next week. that means 5 consecutive exams. Apparently they have to submit marks to NESA so i have to finish them all by friday or else i'm getting 0. I don't know how i'll mentally be able to do all that. i called NESA and tey were very vague and unhelpful.

Yikes! Thats never good!
I just came off trials in which i had 5 straight days of exams. It ain't pretty, but its doable.
I recconmend is studying as much as you can before the week of the exams and then not study at all during the week except for scanning notes. That way i kept my brain healthy enough to continue doing exams without putting myself under too much stress by giving it breaks!

I wish you the best of luck!  ;D

The issues is that i have done very little study. My exams start tomorrow with another on friday. Then there's the weekend and then i have exams on Monday, tuesday and wednesday. My biggest concern is modern on wednesday, since its so content heavy and i don't have anything memorised

Should i just give up on my worst subject so i have extra time on my other subjects? i'm ranked 3rd last in maths, so maybe i should just give up on that one. i am worried thought, as i know the students who are 2nd last and last are also struggling with mental illness so us three all have uncertain external marks so i'm concerned that if i drop to last place but do better in externals, my overall mark will be terrible

Hey entartung,
I'm sorry to hear your predicament, It sounds super stressful. But you'll get through it.
You know when the exams are scheduled, right? I recommend creating a to-do list of everything you need to know, covering it and crossing everything off the best you can. Don't drop maths. Don't give up. Sacrificing one can seriously impact the others, and so it's best you just keep working at it. Prioritise work by your knowledge and grades in different subjects; this may mean that you need to work on mathematics more, not less. Why don't you go over it with your teacher, or a parent or another student? It never hurts to try your best, and hey, in a week it'll be over and what happens, happens. Just do the best you can.

edit: This doesn't mean that maths takes full precedence - work on everything, but focus on what you don't know. I can't help you with anything else because I'm not doing HSC, but please remember that you have to look after yourself first and foremost - if you try your best and don't feel you do well, it's not your fault. Get through it because you're worth it, okay? <3
