Melbourne Commerce, 24 in Methods

Hey guys,
I have always wanted to study Commerce at Melbourne, I got an ATAR of 94 and also have SEAS however I only achieved a 24 in Methods, I therefore missed out on the pre-requisite score of 25. I am really confused on what to do next. I have enrolled in the bridging course for January however I don't think I will be able to immediately enter commerce and will have to transfer half way though the semester from Bachelor of Arts.

I am having surgery throughout the year that will put me out of action for a while and mandated at home for six weeks and basically very restricted for the whole year. Is there any chance I can do the bridging course over summer and just take a gap year without applying for any university courses and then apply through VTAC next year with my bridging course certificate and ATAR from 2018? This would allow me to recover from my surgery and also take a well needed holiday.

My preference is to immediately enter commerce but this seems unlikely, my second preference would be to take a year off and then apply

Thanks guys for any suggestions!

You could just try deferring your course...

Basically, just keep going with your application as per usual and then when you get an offer in January 2019 (presumably), you can accept said offer and then choose to defer. Deferring is essentially a method for many people to hit the "pause" button on their degree. This ensures that they can take a gap semester/ year as they see fit or need, in your case, and return to their studies.

P.S. I found out during the After Year 12 Q + A that apparently there have been occasions in which the uni has accepted people with really close to 25 raw SSs for Methods.
VCE: Psych | Eng Lang | LOTE | Methods | Further | Chem
Uni: Bachelor of Science (Hons) - genetics
Current: working (sporadically on AN)

Another option worth considering is taking a reduced load. You could knock off some Arts subjects (it sounds like this is where you'll be headed next year for the moment) and get them credited towards commerce in the end. Maybe take like first year econ or something? Can watch lectures at home and then head in for the one hour tutes each week, obviously depending on your recovery from surgery.

The reason I've floated that option is because it's important for recovery that you actually have something to do with your life. I don't know the nature of your surgery, obviously, but just sitting around at home without anything to do or look forward to might be a bit demoralising for the year.

2016-20: MD, UniMelb
2019-20: MPH, UniMelb
2021-: GDipBiostat, USyd

Thank you that definitely sounds like a seriously good option. Do you know how I would go about getting a reduced load like the one you suggested? It definitely seems like something I want to pursue now, I definitely need something to occupy me while I recover

As I understand it, you just need to enrol in your degree and then choose a limited number of subjects.
