Thanks! Do you see people doing a PhD at the top ten and not staying in academia? What are their industry options like?

There are some but it's not the norm. If you do happen to receive an interview request, do not mention that you want to go into the industry as that will kill all chances of being admitted. Indeed, a PhD (in econ/bus) is to prepare you for a life in academia and placements on the job market is extremely important to the ranking/prestige of top 10's. Not landing an academic position on the job market and going into industry is considered a "failure" for these schools.
PhD @ MIT (Economics).

Interested in asset pricing, econometrics, and social choice theory.
