Is it time to give up and focus on other subjects?

My SAC results for Chemistry and Biology is horrible.

For the 3 SACs for Chemistry I've done, I got 35%(10%) 72%(10%) and 66%(8%)
For the 3 SACs for Biology I've done, I got 63%(10%) 50%(10%) and 55%(8%)

I am doing rather well for EAL, based on past years class performance, I'm looking at a 40+.

My Global politics average is looking good as well, and we have yet to complete any SACs for Unit 4.
Methods......I'm giving up.

I have already done a 3/4 subject last year which scales to a 37.

I am trying my very best, but according to my friends, I'm not studying productively, too concentrated on the book knowledge and not enough practice.

Now I'm learning how to study, and it's working out okay...
But should I now focus more on subjects I'm doing well in, rather than subjects I'm definitely not gonna get a 40+ in, like I know I might not even get a 35 in these???

It's funny, I always thought I'll somehow manage a 40+ in all my subjects back then.....But now? Time to face reality.

My school is a selective entry, so the Cohort is really, really strong..... And the teachers don't give us SAC averages, yet when I ask around,  I know a lot of people with higher marks than me but also a lot lower than me.

I am eligible for three SEAS categories, and the aim is to make it into Monash Biomedical Science. I don't want to be risky, so I want a 94 to be safe.

So what should I do? If I work really hard and work productively from now on, do well on the remaining SACs(about 2 SACs(12% in total) per subjects except EAL), and do well on my exams, is a 40+ in these two subjects still possible?

A bit beat down.....People who study for very few hours end up with higher marks than me, whilst I study for days, and not gonna lie, it's really beating up my motivation and passion...

They say SACs doesn't matter that much coz as long as u do well on ur Exam, it will moderate it, and as my school has really hard SACs, it'll get scaled by a lot. But then as my school has a really strong cohort, my ranking's not looking bright.....

I don't understand how the ranking works but I know its important...

Am I done?

I don't think you should give up. the subjects that you are describing are all also heavily dependent on your exam mark! chemistry 60% I think, biology 50%, and methods is 60%. the point is that you still have time to salvage your score. that being said, don't also neglect the subjects that you're really good at.

If i were you, i would be strategic and prioritise my strong subjects but also allocate time to the ones i'm not performing well on. From what you've said about your study habits, I think you need to study smarter, not harder. And it's great that you're already changing that. So maybe for subjects like biology, make a list of topics that you have NO IDEA on and focus more on book knowledge for those, but for topics you're more comfortable with, watch videos or find a way to revise that is active, not passive. (such as doing exam questions to revise and learn the content more intimately) A great resource for quick revision is also edrolo. I'm not sure if your school has this or not, but if they do, UTILISE IT!! If you don't have it, i know for biology atleast, the edrolo presenter (andrew douch) has FREE podcasts that cover 3/4 biology! so maybe try listening to those. its a short and quick way of revising and you won't feel guilty for not doing anything.

- also dynamic science is a great website that sorts out exam questions based off topic, so it's good for revising specific areas that you find difficult.
2020 subjects:
3/4 English - 3/4 Methods- 3/4 chemistry- 3/4 Biology- 3/4 psychology

Hey

I also go to a Selective School and my grades are rather unimpressive for certain subjects such as getting a C+ on my first Bio sac. However, for subjects like Bio especially at Selective schools, there are a lot of try-hard Year 11s that will most likely carry you. In last years cohort, a C+ scaled up to an A. My advice is do well on the exam (because that's depend on you alone) and let the cohort carry your sac marks and you might be pleasantly surprised with your results.

This happened to me last year in Geography 3/4, I was probably rank 12 out of 19 (speculating my rank here), and my Sac averages were around 70-75%. I got an A+ on the exam and ended up with a 41 so it def is still possible to do well. Especially since Bio and Chem exams weigh 60% of the Study score instead of the usual 50%.
