Need Help Choosing University

Hello,

I haven't got my ENTER yet (obviously) but I'm trying from now to confirm my university preferences. I'm not really sure what university to choose, but I'm pretty set on doing business/commerce at university.

I most probably won't obtain the ENTER to get into Melbourne University and Monash unfortunately is too far away from where I live for me to considering going there.

I was looking at Deakin University in Geelong and perhaps doing a Commerce degree there. Often at school people have 'laughed' at people who went to Deakin accusing it of being a 'shit' university. Should I consider doing Commerce there, or is it really a below average place to study?

Also, can you transfer from Deakin->Melbourne after spending a year at Deakin if your performance is good? If so, I'd be willing on killing myself working hard and trying to get a transfer into Melbourne.

I am looking at options in RMIT as well. I don't feel confident in how I performed this year at school, so not sure if my ENTER will be up to scratch. I guess only time will tell.

Thanks in advance.

I'm in a similar situation to you, I'm from the geelong area hoping to do commerce for university. Having looked into it and having asked my cousins who work for the Big four, Deakin is considered an okay university. Most smaller businesses don't even care where you went to, however, if you're planning to work for the big four or a large firm you're better off going to unis in Melbourne such RMIT, Melbourne uni etc.

Although I'm not too sure about transferring from Deakin to Melbourne, my cousin who works for the big four started off at Deakin Geelong worked hard and then transferred to RMIT second year.

Also have you looked into Monash Caulfield? It's close to central melbourne, you gain the presitgue of a top 8 uni and if you are from the geelong area like myself it's actually pretty easy to commute there.

Anyway good luck :)

Wow.  Geelong.  Basically it would be a pain to travel to Melbourne, wouldn't it?  Train for about an hour to the city and then another train if you're going to Monash Caulfield or a tram if you're going to Melbourne Uni.

Hopefully it won't be too bad. My two brothers are both at Melbourne uni and both commute. They're fine with it because they get the chance to sleep or do some study and the train station is a 5 minute walk for us. And once they get off at North Melbourne they catch a 10 minute bus to melb uni.
I bet even people that live in melbourne will be travelling for about the same amount of time anyway.
