Revision while reading the books?

Just wondering what studying techniques people adopt when reading the english books.. Personally i was thinking of typing up a brief dot point summary after each chapter, and taking down any important quotes within the book.

How about you?

You're so motivated!!

Well I stressed out too much about doing something like that - I read Hard Times lol. I think a dot point summary with a few quotes is a great idea. If you do it as you read, you save time at the end of the year. Maybe read each book twice and then do this the second time round?

haha I try, I try.. English is hard to keep motivated for, unless you want to be a journalist. To be honest, not really looking forward to reading the books anyway. (The Year of Wonders, Crucible and The Rugmaker of Mazar-e-sharif)

Alwell I suppose it has got to be done.

I'm doing the same books. I'm trying to put of Year of Wonders.. the first few pages are boring as!

I'm thinking of going through the book and making a list comprising all the questions regarding the book that I want answered, just any question that pops to mind.

I really didn't like Eng - couldn't see the point of writing an essay lol - I found it hard to keep motivated for it.

Yeah I took a quick glimpse at the book and thought, 'what a nightmare'. I'm going to start reading them today, I'll probably read the context first, mainly because you only really need to know the gist of the book, main themes etc. to be able to write a piece relating to one of the themes. There isn't much, or any quote memorising unlike the text response which requires you to memorise every single detail.

There's no point doing dot point summaries of the whole book. Trust me, you won't "forget" what you read. Besides, you are MEANT to read ur texts a couple of times throughout the year

1=before school
2=early in the year/before SAC
3rd or 4th time=before exam

What I did though, was compile a list of important EVENTS and QUOTES and analyse them, sort of like writing a paragraph for an essay, but it was brief.

I would also analyse important quotes, and rite down the page number.

But yeah, study guides already contain summaries for the chapter, just read them if u want to refresh ur memory/revise.
I just find it a waste of revision ><

i strongly recommend buying one of those study guides for the text that you are studying (neap is pretty good). they save you from writing your own summary / quotes, are more comprehensive and offer the writers' own analysis as well.

of course, writing your own notes help to stick them in your mind, but reading others' analysis never hurts i guess
