It makes sense to do 5 and not four for the "safety net" of being able to stuff up one, but what is the liklihood of stuffing up TWO subjects? Probably not worth it.

The extra one is not necessary for most people who do at least one in Yr 11.
Also, the sixth subject sacrifices spares at our school, which are important for our other subjects.
Remember, remember the 5th of November

Ohh I did 6 subjects this year and i had 4 periods of spares still. English and Maths went for 4 periods a week and chem and Biology was 5 periods a week. SIGH those people who did 5 subjects and didn't do a science subject had 10 periods of spares  :o ...

Yeah 6 subjects is crazy work but many kids at my school did 6 just for the extra aggregates :) but i rkn focusing on 5 is the much more comfortable option because you can do just as good !!

Yeah, 6 subjects are too much for some people. You might as well focus more time on doing 5 subjects and get better results, than getting average results across all six. The consensus is that you might as well "wing" a subject and get some aggregate points, but then that's sacrificing some of your free periods too! :)

Most people dont do a 1/2 in year 10 because they dont know anything about VCE in year 9, when they would be selecting it. It would be hit and miss, in terms of success, throwing yourself into a 3/4 in year 11 without any VCE (1/2) experience aswell.

In my case my school made it mandatory for us to do 5 subjects in year 12.

I knew a couple people that asked for approval to do 6 but they didn't get it.

I've got 6 since i did a 3/4 in Yr 11 so i dont mind in particular.

Yehh i think it wouldve been good if my school made it mandatory for ONLY 5 subjects that would mean 3/4's could have been taken in year 11. My school was strict and was opposed for year 11's doing 3/4's. They only allowed it to kids that were exceptional and even then they would have gone through a grueling process of several interviews/auditions.

At the beginning of Y10 the school told us we needed to attain a B+ average to qualify for 3/4 in Y11, but in the end almost everyone did a 3/4.
