Hey guys,

Having trouble with answering this question;

Discuss how the corporate culture of Telstra would have changed once it became privatized. Provide an example to support your answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Would it have something to do with Telstra adopting a profit motive, and therefore would require it's staff to seek professionalism in their actions?

Yeh I'd agree with that or it could be:
because they would no longer have money allocated by the government, they would have the option of spending money on work space/layout?
no longer in the media (in a government sense) so they could therefore be more relaxed with a different dress code?
if it is privatized, functional structure/communication channels could change
etc etc etc....

Ok so when i'm answering this question, I would say;

The Corporate Culture of Telstra would have changed in that they would now seek professionalism in all areas of the business e.g. Telstra would focus on minimising costs and making a profit, therefore they would dress appropriately to attract customers and portray a 'professional' message (this in turn could maximise sales). They could also incorporate a more complex management structure, which could mean separating the organisation into a Divisional Structure and employing managers for each division located around Australia.

Yeah?

Telstra's corporate culture would have been greatly influenced by its privatization because of its introduction on the ASX and the need to now consider the shareholder interests of the general public (rather than the previously dominant holdings of the government). Translation: more profit-seeking.

Well... perhaps you need to spell things out quite explicitly in vce business management (which I didn't do, so please forgive me), but the drive for profits is in itself a culture-altering mechanism... if a company will go to any lengths to secure its profit targets, it is in danger of losing sight of customer satisfaction, public perception, environmental consciousness, etc. A company that has no regard for customer satisfaction will develop a culture of nonchalance and a complete lack of commitment when it comes to customer service; it becomes all about the bottom line.
