New ISIS Subject Codes

New subject codes and dual display

The University is introducing a new student system called ISIS in June 2010 to replace Merlin, the current student system.

New subject codes will come into effect on 7 June 2010, however from 27 April 2010 they will be shown in a number of University-wide systems including the LMS, Handbook and Student Portal.

To help with this transition both the old Merlin codes and the new ISIS codes will be displayed in these systems until the end of 2010.

More detailed information about the new ISIS codes and dual display of subject codes.

The new subject codes are explained in this Fact Sheet on the Student System Project website.

For further information about ISIS see the ISIS website.

This is the system that Monash is currently using, isn't it?

Hmmmmmmmm

Students will be able to access their individual timetable anytime, anywhere, online through the Student Portal. Where it is appropriate for students to do so, they will be able to view, select and register for available class times for all their classes, and can base selection on their own requirements.

Student Timetable – The Student Timetable is created by students themselves. Enrolled students can select or be assigned to specific teaching activities such as tutorials, laboratories and lectures resulting in a complete individual student timetable. This new student system will replace all current systems including Alloc8. University system to be used: ISIS.

So that means our timetables will no longer be automatically generated and we'll have to create it like Monash kids?

So that means our timetables will no longer be automatically generated and we'll at long last get the privilege to create our own timetables and not have to camp the site waiting for capacity to go down to 99% to switch into that class you want

So at Monash, the capacity of the class doesn't matter.  The university will just "accommodate" so to speak?

It does matter, you can't switch into a class if it's full. But it's run on a random (not first come, first served) basis and tries to make sure everyone gets as many first preferences as possible

So..

1. You submit your preferences
2. The system generates a timetable
3. You can if you want change your classes around room permitting

Sounds better than UoM's current system.  Does it always work out for your preferences?

Well Allocate here does have a tendency to be called Alloclash, because of the difficulty of just sorting everyone.

But to answer your question, most of the time you'll get your first three preferences if you know what you're doing.
